New version of the Voltage control ancillary services rules effective from 1 January 2027

In accordance with CRE deliberation no. 2026-76 dated 9 April 2026, the new version of the Voltage Control Ancillary Services Rules will become effective on 1 January 2027.
From that date, it will automatically replace the previous versions for all activities and ongoing procedures.
The new Rules have been updated in order to:
•    Change how voltage control ancillary services are paid for: payments will now be based on the measured reactive energy actually supplied to the grid (in MVAr/h), as well as on the actual availability of the ancillary service providers;
•    Revise the rules for reducing payments in the event of non-compliance and strengthen penalties for parties whose performance is persistently below the required level;
•    Update the payment rules for the synchronous compensation service; and
•    Allow producers using renewable energy sources to provide static reactive power compensation with non-synchronous units (i.e. when they are not injecting active power into the grid).

The document is available in the library under Article 8.10 of RTE’s Technical Reference Documentation.

A webinar will be held on Thursday, 24 September 2026, from 10:00 to 12:00, to present a comparative analysis between the current version of the Rules and the version that will enter into force on 1 January 2027.
